Her analysis of their implementation since 1997 includes detailed accounts of the major battles, over demilitarization, tax reform, indigenous rights, and constitutional reforms.In a world plagued by civil wars, many of them involving an ethnic component, the Guatemalan peace process is a source of great lessons and great relevance throughout the Americas and worldwide. Moreover, Jonas' analysis of the Guatemalan experience raises a number of broader issues about revolution, negotiation, peacemaking, democratization, and "U.S.interests;" hence, her bookis of interest to a wide range of Latin Americanists as well as comparativists, students of international affairs, and general readers. I am stunned not to find numerous reviews of this excellent work, a fleshing out of the author's highly-regarded (within the United Nations and global peace-process circles) "The Mined Road to Peace in Guatemala," (North-South Agenda Paper #38, September 1999. As of today, 3 April 2010, her paper and her book are still the core references for those who seek to extend the model elsewhere in Central and Latin America.

A Detailed, Scholarly, But Accessible Treatment

This is accessible to the layman, but because the author covers wrecking in great detail from several angles, some parts are drier than others; for instance, the lengthy chapter on the history of legislation pertaining to wrecking might interest the general reader less than the bulk of the book that describes the reality of wrecking. For such an elusive subject, there's an impressive body of substantiated fact for the professional historian, yet enough verve and dash for the casual reader who just asks, "Did it really happen?"

Easy to Use

Sometimes it is hard to 'toot your own horn' and then back it up with words. I found this book to be really helpful with finding ways to best word my performance. I have allowed some of my co-workers to borrow it for their review assessments as well, and they all have found it to be helpful.
The book is set up to search for topics alphabetically or by job function. This makes it easy to find things related to your job. However, I would encourage you to look at even those not directly related as they too offer some great ways to phrase things.

Drawing the human form is probably the hardest task for any artist. Sketching the body within the correct proportions is hard enough - trying to draw the awkward bits like hands, feet, hair can be a nightmare. In this book, Giovanni Civardi sets out to try and show just how to create sketches of the human form. As he points out these do not have to be accurate depictions of a person, just sketches and outlines of pertinent features, and facial expressions. Trying to get everything down on paper within just a few minutes is impossible - concentrating on what is essential is all important. He gives lots of useful advice, and explains why he chose to sketch the images portrayed in the book - what he was hoping to achieve, the artistic image and point he was trying to make. The images themselves offer a good starting point for artists to copy and learn to sketch for themselves. A good solid introduction to the subject which will be welcomed by artists of any standard.-Monstersandcritics.com Giovanni Civardi has been something of a fixture in the field of drawing people for some time and his books offer excellent instruction and a wealth of illustration. However, I've always felt that there was a certain heaviness to them and that they looked maybe a little dated. The main body of this relatively short book is taken up with pages of a wide variety of figures: young and old, static and moving, in a variety of costumes and poses. The instruction (though, in truth there are relatively few words) is confined to the introductory sections where Giovanni deals with a few basic drawing principles. This is a book that's probably best approached with at least a moderate ability to draw and the ability to interpret without being told what you're looking at. This is a collection of drawings from the author's sketchbook. Very, very little technique or instruction. Two pages out of 64 are text/instruction. The rest are his pictures. Here's the "instruction" for drawing heads: "When drawing just the head, move from the general elements to the specifics or, once you have worked out the overall space it will take up on the page, you could then move on to defining the dimensions and the form of an important detail (an eye, the nose, etc) Move from this to constructing the entire head and the relationships of each part to another, moving from the specifics to the general elements. The choice of which of these two approaches to adopt will depend on the artist's' attitude and preferences, but also on the position in which they find the subject they intend to sketch." In other words, you can draw the head, then add the eyes, or you can start with the nose then add the rest of the face, depending on your mood. Does that teach you to draw?

About the Author
Neil V. Watson and the members of his lab at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, Canada study sex-related aspects of the structure and function of the nervous system, with ongoing grant support from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada. His work on topics ranging from the effects of steroids on cell survival, to the neural control of reproductive behavior, to human cognitive sex differences has appeared in a variety of journals, including the Journal of Neuroscience, the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science, and Brain Research. Dr. Watson received his undergraduate and master's degrees from the University of Western Ontario and his Ph.D. from the University of British Columbia. Following a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of California, Berkeley, he joined the faculty at SFU in 1996 where he is now Professor of Neuroscience in the Department of Psychology. He teaches biological psychology to hundreds of undergraduate and graduate students each year. S. Marc Breedlove, the Barnett Rosenberg Professor of Neuroscience at Michigan State University, has written over 130 scientific articles investigating the role of hormones in shaping the developing and adult nervous system, publishing in journals including Science, Nature, Nature Neuroscience, and the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science. He is also passionate about teaching-in the classroom, and in the greater community through interviews with the Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, New York Times, and Newsweek, as well as broadcast programs such as All Things Considered, Good Morning America, and Sixty Minutes. He has active grant support from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke and the National Institute of Mental Health. Dr. Breedlove is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the Association for Psychological Science.

Pretty good

Very interesting textbook. Easy to read even though the subject material is dense. It can take a while to really wrap your mind around it all. My Biopsych class in Fall I think was one of the first to use it so the website wasn't completely functional yet which kind of sucked. It lacked those extra study resources. It is cool to have a book that has such up to date information in it. Even mentions Pixar's Inside Out which just came out earlier this year.

I usually don't read books like this because the tone in a lot of these types of books are pretty boring. Spectacular, however, found a way to write a book that was informative and funny at the same time. While you're reading it, you'll feel that Spectacular is a good friend of yours who is simply trying to give you great advice.

This book was so funny/entertaining and RIGHT ON about love, dating, fighting with your man/woman, communicating, getting through hard time, and loving thru good times. He tells the story about his love with his girlfriend and their child. In addition to being a famous rapper, he's a man who knows how to be everything for his woman. MEN need to read this! His advice is different from what you hear all the time because he speaks the truth! It didn't take long to read. Binged in one sitting. I laughed, got mad, had tears in my eye one or two times. I'll be smarter about love having read this!

I don't normally like to read books on relationships, I never feel like I can relate to them and I feel like the author is talking down to the reader. Spectacular's take on relationships is not only applicable to anyone, it also offers perfect solutions to issues that every in a relationship has. Definitely an amazing read
